Espresso Cups from Barista-Essentials
We sell porcelain espresso cups in 5 different colours. Perfect for treating yourself or the espresso lover in your life.
The cups are available in 2 versions: one with a glazed inside (the classic espresso cup in grey or speckled) and one with a half-glazed outside (our half-glazed espresso cup, in pink, yellow, and green).
Our espresso cups are handmade by a small-scale producer, which makes every cup unique.
Other practical features include:
- Rounded inside that keeps your crema intact
- Easy to stack on top of your machine (or anywhere else, it’s up to you)
- Thin walls that warm up quickly
- Made of porcelain, which retains heat better than ceramic or stoneware
- A glaze coating that keeps your cups looking nice for longer
How our porcelain espresso cups are handmade
Each espresso cup that comes out of the mold is first smoothed with a damp sponge, after which they are put into the oven.
After applying the glaze, they are baked again, this time at 1250˚C.
Capacity of espresso cups
Our espresso cups have a capacity of 60ml. This makes them suitable for single/double espresso and cortado.
Note: if you use a double spout portafilter, you cannot catch your double espresso in one cup, as it’s not wide enough. However, you can pour one espresso into your cup afterward, for example using an espresso pitcher.
In general, you’ll find espresso cups with a capacity between 60ml and 100ml.
Are your espresso cups porcelain?
Yes! Our espresso cups are handmade from porcelain.
We chose porcelain because it retains heat better than ceramic or stoneware and is more durable (as it is baked at a higher temperature).
Care tip: Rinse your porcelain cups quickly after use and don’t leave them to soak for too long. Doing this prevents coffee from seeping into the porcelain (especially in the beginning).
The cups are dishwasher-safe.
The benefits of a dedicated espresso cup
You’ll enjoy your espresso more from a dedicated espresso cup. You may think this is just a feeling, but there are two measurable reasons for the difference:
- If you drink espresso from a cup that’s too big, it cools down much faster.
- The conical bottom of the espresso cup keeps your crema intact.
Another advantage: two espress cups fit side by side on even the smallest coffee scale.

Difference with Italian espresso cups
Italian espresso cups are instantly recognizable: white, tapered, almost always porcelain, and with a handle and saucer.
Most espresso cups resemble this Italian ancestor: conical inside and with walls that keep your coffee warm.
The biggest difference (read: upgrade) with our espresso cups lies in the thinner walls. This means they don’t just retain heat but also warm up quickly on top of your machine.
