A puck screen against channeling and mess

One of the most common problems in the home barista world is channeling. This happens when water doesn’t flow evenly through your puck during extraction. Some parts of the puck are over-extracted, while others are under-extracted.

There are many possible causes for channeling (think uneven tamping, clumps in your grind, etc.), so finding the exact fix isn’t always easy.

A barista tool that helps you fight channeling, no matter the cause, is a puck screen. This metal disc sits on top of your puck and makes sure the water is evenly distributed before extraction starts.

This puck screen is an upgrade from our previous version. Here’s what we improved:

Note: When using a puck screen, you’ll need about 1 gram less espresso grounds to keep your coffee balanced.

Choosing the right size puck screen

It’s important to pick the puck screen that fits your machine. We offer 4 sizes:

51 mm: For De’Longhi Dedica, De’Longhi Specialista, Solis Grind & Infuse Compact, and Gastroback.
53.3 mm: For Sage, Solis, and Breville machines, such as the Barista Express, Barista Pro, etc.
58 mm: For Quick Mill.
58.5 mm: For all (E61) machines with a 58 mm filter basket, such as Rocket, ECM, VBM, Bezzera, Gaggia, Profitec, Ascaso, and Lelit.
